EICR

An EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report), is a safety check of a property’s electrical wiring and systems. It’s a formal document that assesses the safety of the electrical installation and identifies any defects or potential hazards.

What EICR Testing Involves:

A qualified electrician will visually inspect the electrical installation, looking for wear and tear, damage, and any signs of potential hazards.
The electrician will conduct tests on the electrical system, including insulation resistance, earth fault loop impedance, and continuity of protective conductors.
A detailed report (the EICR) will be provided to you outlining the condition of the electrical installation, identifying any defects or areas of concern.

EICRs help ensure the electrical installation is safe and prevent potential accidents like electric shocks or fires.

For homeowners, EICRs provide assurance that their electrical system is safe and meets current safety standards. An up-to-date EICR can also be beneficial when selling a property.

While not a legal requirement for homeowners, it’s recommended to have an EICR every 10 years or sooner if there are concerns.
Businesses may also need EICRs to comply with health and safety regulations. For landlords, EICRs are legally required every five years.
